Opinion Festival 2024: Culture area

At this year’s Opinion Festival, a day of music discussions will be organized in the Culture area. Four topics will be discussed: music in film, music and technology, music and the economy, and the future of music in Estonia. The music-themed discussions are coordinated by six Estonian music industry organizations: Estonian Authors’ Society, Estonian Performers’ Association, Estonian Association of Phonogram Producers, Fairmus, Music Estonia, and Tallinn Music Week.

Music Estonia coordinates and leads the discussion panel “Music and Film,” starting at 12:00 PM. The discussion will focus on the music and film sectors, the collaboration of Estonian creators with international filmmaking – Hollywood and smaller productions, the skills, tools, and meeting places we need, and the rights and obligations related to the use of music, among other topics. Participants in the discussion include: Sven Grünberg (composer), Rasmus Merivoo (director), Thea Zaitsev (founder and CEO of Tier Music), Mati Kaalep (Head of the Estonian Authors’ Society), and Michael Pärt (music producer). Moderator: Ave Sophia Tölpt (Director of Music Estonia).

Additionally, Music Estonia’s CEO will participate in the “Music and the Future of Estonia” panel, starting at 6:00 PM. Participants in the discussion include: Heidy Purga (Minister of Culture of the Republic of Estonia), Ave Sophia Tölpt (CEO of Music Estonia), Kristjan Järvi (conductor, composer, and producer), Marju Lauristin (social scientist, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tartu), and Marko Mägi (Program Director of the Music Curriculum at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy). Moderator: Helen Sildna (founder and CEO of TMW).

The moderators for other music-related topics are: Reigo Ahven, founder and CEO of Fairmus (Music and Technology panel, starting at 2:00 PM), and Mati Kaalep, CEO of the Estonian Authors’ Society (Music and the Economy panel, starting at 4:00 PM).
