East x West Records is a women-led independent record label focused on breaking boundaries and defying genre rules. It is run by Issy Hughes, originally from Liverpool. The label’s mission is to open new paths and opportunities for Estonian alternative and underground music, so that these artists are recognised and heard by a wider audience outside of Estonia.

“My background is within the UK music industry, I started out at 10 years old, building a radio station in my bedroom. Which snowballed into me being scouted by the BBC by the age of 15, getting my first job in the industry at 16 and then spending my entire life within the industry. I was known for my interviews with stars like Morrissey, Iggy Pop & Shaun Ryder and giving the industry a fresh perspective. I moved to Estonia a few years ago when I realised there was such a rich and diverse music scene here and I decided it was time the alternative scene had a record label with contacts, backing and wider conne.”
