A call for a stronger Creative Europe programme and a European music strategy
At the European Union level, several consultations are currently underway, aiming to shape the direction of future policies, including in the cultural sector. The first drafts of the next EU budget framework (Multiannual Financial Framework) are also expected soon. This is a critical moment to reaffirm the importance of culture in Europe, which deserves both political vision and financial resources.
Two collective letters — presented below — clearly convey this message. They are addressed to EU institutions and national governments, and highlight the need for:
-
An independent Creative Europe programme with a sufficient and stable budget
-
A strategic and ambitious EU approach to music, built on long-term support
Music Estonia is represented in several networks that are formulating and consolidating these proposals — including Live DMA, EMEE, and EMMA.
On Friday, July 11, Culture Action Europe sent a renewed letter to President Ursula von der Leyen and Commissioner Piotr Serafin, stressing that if the EU increased the Creative Europe budget to 2% of the Multiannual Financial Framework (around €24 billion), it could add €266 billion to the EU’s GDP over seven years. 1,700 professionals from the cultural and creative sectors are calling for an increase in the Creative Europe budget and for ensuring that cultural funding remains strong, visible, and independent in the next financial framework.
