Representatives of the Estonian and Finnish music sectors held a joint networking day

On August 13, a networking event for the Estonian and Finnish music sectors was held at the Estonian Embassy in Helsinki, bringing together representative organisations from both countries. The aim of the meeting was to strengthen ties between the Estonian and Finnish music sectors, learn more about ongoing projects, and initiate more strategic cross-border cooperation in the field.

Organised jointly by the Estonian Embassy, Music Estonia and Music x Media, the Estonia–Finland Music Industry Networking Afternoon brought together representatives of music export, festivals, live music, jazz, contemporary music and the independent music sector around the same table in Helsinki. Participants from Estonia included Music Estonia, Tallinn Music Week, the Estonian Jazz Union, Heavy Music Estonia and the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Music. The Finnish music sector was represented by Music x Media / Lost in Music, Music Finland, LiveFIN, Jazz Finland and IndieCo.

Throughout the day, the organisations introduced their activities and shared their previous experiences of Estonian-Finnish cooperation. The discussions that followed the presentations focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between Estonia and Finland and make it more systematic and long-term. At the heart of the meeting was the question of how the music sectors of the two neighbouring countries can make greater use of each other’s knowledge, networks and opportunities.

The participants discussed the cross-border mobility of artists and music professionals, cooperation and joint projects between representative organisations, securing funding, conducting research, and jointly developing large-scale, long-term projects such as Linnahall.

The networking event concluded with a musical performance by Finnish artist Anni Pohto.

The activities are planned to continue at the Tallinn Music Week and Music x Media showcase festivals.
